Tempo Traveller Kerala bookings most often run as a group cab for tours where the group is between eight and twenty-six people, and it's the vehicle Mango Cabs books most for that audience. Run from our Trivandrum office since 2005, our Tempo Traveller fleet covers the full state — Munnar, Alleppey, Wayanad, Thekkady, Kovalam, Kochi — plus inter-state runs into Tamil Nadu and Karnataka where the group permit is sorted in advance.
How Tempo Traveller hire in Kerala works — from the Trivandrum office
The Tempo Traveller in Kerala is a day-rental vehicle — there are no hourly bookings, because the chassis size and fuel cost don't make sense for short city runs. The fare is a per-day package with included kilometres and a per-extra-km rate beyond that. Driver bata, fuel, and 5% GST are inside the package. Inter-state permit (if you're crossing into Tamil Nadu or Karnataka), parking, toll where applicable, and night halt are billed at actuals on the invoice — not added later as a surprise.
We don't run published point fares, surge pricing, festival multipliers, or airport-zone markups. Pricing is shaped by trip duration, route, season, diesel, KMTWWF-regulated driver bata, and inter-state permit fees (where applicable). WhatsApp the trip brief — date, group size, route, return date if round-trip — and the transparent quote lands in about ten minutes. The figure on WhatsApp is the figure on the invoice.
| Configuration | Best for | Vehicle features |
|---|---|---|
| 12-seater Tempo Traveller — hire guide for Kerala | 8–12 pax with luggage; family / corporate | Force Traveller chassis, push-back seats, individual AC vents, 4-bag boot bay |
| 14-seater Tempo Traveller | 13–14 pax; mid-sized groups | Same chassis, two more seats configured into the cabin |
| 17-seater Tempo Traveller — hire guide for Kerala | 15–17 pax; school groups, joint families, pilgrimages | 6 push-back rows, individual AC vents, 6-bag boot bay |
| 26-seater Tempo Traveller | 18+ pax; wedding guest transfers, large school trips, conferences | Mini-coach configuration, maximum seating + boot |
WhatsApp the trip details (date, group size, route, return date if round-trip) for a transparent quote. Confirmed in 10 minutes; the figure on WhatsApp is the figure on the invoice.
Which Tempo Traveller size do you need?
Most travellers ask us this on the first call. The right size depends on group count plus how much luggage, plus whether the trip is multi-day with hotel changes (which adds boot space). A practical map:
- 8–12 pax with one bag each, single-destination trip: 12-seater hire guide for Kerala. Comfortable seating, push-back seats, ample legroom, individual AC vents. The 12-seater is our most-booked Tempo Traveller Kerala configuration for 5–6 day loops.
- 13–14 pax, mixed luggage: 14-seater. Same chassis, configured for two more passengers. We recommend it when 12 feels tight but a 17-seater is more vehicle than the group needs.
- 15–17 pax, school trip / pilgrimage / joint-family Kerala tour: 17-seater Tempo Traveller. The right call for Sabarimala pilgrimage, Velankanni, and Guruvayoor pilgrimages where the group books one vehicle for the entire trip — and the default config for school and college group trips.
- 18+ pax, wedding / school excursion / conference: 26-seater (mini-coach configuration). Wedding guest transfers between venue and hotel, multi-school-bus replacements, and conference shuttle work — one driver, one coordinator, one invoice.
If you're between sizes, we'll say so on the call. We'd rather have you in the right vehicle than upsell — most Mango Cabs customers come back, and the wrong-size Tempo Traveller on a Munnar trip is a hard mistake to forget.
Kerala tour itineraries we run most
These are real routes our drivers run every week. Pick one as a starting point, or send us the destinations and we'll quote the loop.
5-day Kerala loop — Trivandrum → Kovalam → Alleppey → Munnar → Trivandrum
Start at 6 a.m. on day one for the Trivandrum–Munnar route — clear the afternoon mist over the Munnar tea estates by arriving before 11 a.m. Kovalam is a half-day, Alleppey houseboats are a one-night stay, and the return leg from Munnar is the most-photographed stretch of the trip. 12-seater Tempo Traveller is the default for a family of eight to twelve.
7-day Kerala loop — adds Thekkady and Wayanad
The 5-day loop plus the Periyar wildlife sanctuary near Thekkady and the Wayanad hill station to the north. The Wayanad leg routes via Kochi → Thrissur → Kozhikode and is usually overnighted. 17-seater is the right call for a joint-family booking of fifteen plus.
10-day Kerala + Tamil Nadu inter-state
The 7-day loop plus a Madurai (Meenakshi temple) and Kanyakumari extension. Crossing into Tamil Nadu needs an inter-state permit which we sort 48 hours before the trip. The driver handles paperwork at the checkpost — you stay in the vehicle.

What's included in the package
| Included in the day-rental fare | Billed at actuals |
|---|---|
| Driver bata (the chauffeur's daily allowance) | Inter-state permit (Tamil Nadu / Karnataka, ~₹2,500–₹4,500 — KMVD government rate) |
| Fuel | Parking |
| 5% GST | Toll where applicable |
| AC running through the trip | Night halt (driver accommodation, when the trip overnights outside Trivandrum) |
| Push-back seats, individual AC vents, audio system | Additional km beyond the daily km allowance (per-extra-km rate confirmed on your WhatsApp quote) |
Outstation Tempo Traveller bookings — Wayanad, Munnar, inter-state — are day-rental only; we don't run hourly Tempo Traveller bookings because the included kilometres get used up before the trip starts. For shorter city-hour packages, see our outstation taxi services using sedans or Innovas instead.
Twenty-one years on Kerala's roads
Mango Cabs has been the Trivandrum-anchor for Tempo Traveller Kerala bookings since 2005. Twenty-one years of verified drivers, serviced vehicles, and a Trivandrum office that picks up the phone at 4 a.m. for the airport pickup that needs the night-before confirmation. Our 1,000+ vehicle fleet is the largest in the state's organised cab segment — you can browse the full Mango Cabs fleet including sedans, Innova / Innova Crysta, SUVs, and the four Tempo Traveller configurations described above. Choosing between Innova and Tempo Traveller for a Kerala group trip? See our honest Innova vs Tempo Traveller comparison for the dimensions, capacity trade-offs, and decision frame. The fleet also includes the Force Urbania — Force Motors' newer premium Tempo Traveller variant — for groups that want the additional legroom on multi-day Kerala loops. We operate from our Sreekariyam garage in Trivandrum with NH-66 corridor coverage to Kollam, Kochi, and onwards, and run the COK airport pickup from Trivandrum daily; the multi-location footprint is expanding to Kochi. Our drivers are full-time chauffeurs (not gig-shift drivers) with police-verified backgrounds, working English, and route knowledge that comes from running these trips for a living. Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book a Tempo Traveller in Kerala?
Three to seven days ahead is the sweet spot. The Tempo Traveller fleet is smaller than the sedan / Innova fleet, so weekend and festival-week availability tightens. Same-day bookings are sometimes possible. WhatsApp first.
Is the 12-seater Tempo Traveller enough for twelve adults with luggage on a Kerala tour?
For a single-destination trip, yes, twelve adults plus one bag each fits comfortably. For a multi-stop 5–6 day loop with hotel changes, the 14-seater is the conservative call because the boot fills up faster than you'd expect.
Do I need to pay for the inter-state permit for a Tempo Traveller into Tamil Nadu?
Yes. Inter-state tourist vehicle permits (issued by the Kerala State Transport Authority) run roughly ₹2,500–₹4,500 depending on the state and the trip duration. We sort the permit 48 hours before the trip and bill it at actuals on the invoice — you'll see the figure on the day-of WhatsApp confirmation.
Is there a 20-seater Tempo Traveller in Kerala?
No. The Tempo Traveller configurations are 12, 14, 17, and 26-seater only — there is no 20-seater chassis. For groups of 18–22, the 26-seater is the right call because the boot fills up faster than the seat count would suggest.
Is the Tempo Traveller AC throughout the trip?
Yes. Every Mango Cabs Tempo Traveller — 12, 14, 17, and 26-seater — has air conditioning running through the whole trip, with individual AC vents at each push-back seat. AC is included in the day-rental package and never billed separately. For Kerala's monsoon humidity and Tamil Nadu inter-state heat, the AC is tested before each trip leaves the Trivandrum garage.
Can the trip plan change on the day — extra stop, longer route, late return?
Yes, in-flight changes go through the same WhatsApp line you booked on. Additional kilometres are billed at the per-extra-km rate confirmed on your original quote; an additional stop is fine if it's reasonable; a major route change may need a quote update which we'll send on WhatsApp before you proceed.
Will the driver speak English?
Working English, yes. Most of our Tempo Traveller drivers also speak Malayalam and Tamil; Hindi varies. For the inter-state and pilgrimage circuits, we assign drivers with the right language mix for the route.
What about a child seat or infant arrangement?
Mention it in the booking and we'll fit the right configuration. For Kerala tours with infants, we usually run a 14-seater with two seats removed for an infant carrier and luggage.
What happens if the vehicle breaks down mid-trip?
A replacement Tempo Traveller is dispatched from the nearest staging point — Trivandrum, Kochi, or Kozhikode depending on where the trip is. The Trivandrum office coordinates it on the WhatsApp thread, and the trip continues on the same per-day fare.
